The Artist
Mosaic Tile Art is a textured painting produced by permanently piecing together broken bits of ceramic and mosaic glass, natural stone and found objects to express abstract thought. For me mosaics are analogous to human life. We are all forced to deal with the reality of broken hearts, egos, and dreams. Like a mosaic, we must take our own personal fragments and glue them back together creating wisdom, strength and beauty. As a mosaic tile artist, I see potential purpose and beauty in busted objects. It is my pleasure and duty to transform these broken pieces into art.
Mosaics are my vehicle through which I can make sense of a complex world and communicate my thoughts and emotions. I strive to portray this by letting the materials I am working with guide me. Most of the time my ideas are site specific. I create a mosaic tile art to be in harmony with its natural setting and to bring positive energy to the environment. By combining form, color, texture, and space my mosaic tile art is integrated with its surroundings and explores its relationship to locale. I strive to assist viewers to see the environment around them in a new profound way.
I am an Atlanta native. My love of mosaic art began in my teens when I discovered I could create furniture for my room. I graduated from Georgia State University with a Bachelor in Fine Art. I am dedicated to building my skill and establishing my career as a mosaic artist. My portfolio includes both commercial and residential installations, including walkways, stairways, kitchens, fireplaces, bathrooms and business signs. Other mosaic works include wall art, furniture and accessories. I also conduct workshops and provide speaking engagements at schools about mosaic art as a profession. -Katie Hall
